Why You’ll Love This Roll a Turkey Game
It’s low-prep and easy to set up (perfect for busy hosts!).
Kids stay entertained while the turkey’s cooking.
This fun game also helps with counting, color recognition, turn-taking, and fine motor skills. It’s amazing on so many levels.
It’s perfect for classrooms, family gatherings, or even Friendsgiving parties with friends.
And let’s be honest, everyone loves an excuse to snack on M&M’s while they play or a hands-on activity!
Supplies You Need
To get started, gather the following:
- A bag of M&M’s in classic colors (red, blue, orange, green, yellow, brown)
- One die
- The free printable turkey game sheet (found at the bottom of this post)
- A flat surface to play on
- Optional: Use mini cups or bowls to hold M&Ms for each player. Or play with a shared bowl in the center.
What if you don’t want to use M&Ms?
This game can be played many different ways! You can substitute:
- pieces of paper
- Skittles
- pom-poms
- dot stickers
- dot markers
- mini buttons or beads
- Play-Doh rolled into small balls
- or simply color in the dots with crayons, colored pencils, or markers!
If you use stickers or markers, you can display their finished turkeys on a wall, fridge, or bulletin board as a keepsake.
How to Play Roll a Turkey

- Give each player a turkey game sheet and set out a supply of M&M’s in the six listed colors.
- Players take turns rolling one die.
- Each number corresponds to a color on the turkey:
- 1 = Red
- 2 = Blue
- 3 = Orange
- 4 = Green
- 5 = Yellow
- 6 = Brown
- After rolling, players place one matching M&M on their turkey.
- First player to fill in all the colors wins!
That’s it! Simple, quick, and full of giggles. Especially if someone keeps rolling the same number over and over!
How long does this game take? Each game takes about 10 minutes. Just long enough to keep kids entertained without losing their attention.
In our house, the real challenge was keeping enough M&M’s on the table. My kids kept “accidentally” eating their game pieces between turns!
Pro Tip: Doing this for a big gathering? Print several and set up a Roll-a-Turkey station at a table.
Super Fun Game Variations to Try
The basic game can be spiced up with many different creative twists. Try one of these:
- Speed Round: Everyone rolls their dice at the same time to see who finishes first!
- Use it as a Number-matching Game: Fill in the circles with numbers and have the participants count the dots on the die and mark down the corresponding number as they roll.
- Have players say one thing they’re thankful for each time they roll a specific number. You can even use the Skittles Gratitude Game prompts for this.
- Make it an Action Edition: Add silly Thanksgiving-themed actions to each number. For example:
Roll a 1? Gobble like a turkey!
Roll a 2? Name a favorite Thanksgiving food
Roll a 3? Shout your turkey name!
Roll a 4? Say something you’re thankful for.
Roll a 5? Tell one Thanksgiving trivia fact.
Roll a 6? Do your best “I’m stuffed” impression.
- Group Game: Play in teams and race to see which group can fill in their turkey first.
