Supplies You Need

All you need to play is:

• One or two candy canes per person (I like to use a variety of flavors and sizes. Or tape money to a few to make things exciting!)
• One die
• The free printable near the bottom of this post – click the blue “download” button.

Objective of the Game

The objective is to have fun swapping, passing, and exchanging candy canes while adding an element of surprise!

How to Play the Candy Cane Dice Game

Here are the basics. Then read to the end of this post to put your own creative twist on it!

1. Players sit in a circle.
2. Each player holds one candy cane to start.
3. Determine the number of rounds you want to play.
4. Give the die to the youngest player to go first.
5. Players roll the die and follow the directions on the printable.

After the final round, each player keeps the candy canes they have in front of them as their prize!

1. They must trade with the person on their left.
2. Everyone passes to the left.
3. They steal any candy cane.
4. Everyone passes to the right twice.
5. They trade with the person across from them.
6. They keep their candy cane.

Variations to This Candy Cane Dice Game

• Money Bonus: Wrap cash around some of the candy canes! This makes it more like a candy cane cash grab.

• Turn it into a gift exchange game! Have everyone bring a small gift (under $10) and put them in the middle before you play. For extra fun, you can even give this a theme like a funny pair of socks, kitchen utensils or a stocking hat.

• You can play this like our Halloween Dice Game instead: Each person starts with 4 pieces of candy (or other items). Take turns rolling the dice and following the instructions. Play until someone has 10 pieces!

• Double Dice Fun: Use two dice and let players pick which number to follow.

• Speed Round: Set a timer for 5 minutes and keep rolling until time runs out!

• Extra Bonus: Throw one large candy cane into your pile before playing. The player who ends up with this one gets an extra prize at the end!
