Small acts, big Impact

Good morning. I’ve been thinking about the power of kindness.

Not the big, life-changing gestures. The little things. A thoughtful note. A helping hand. A moment when someone feels seen.

And here’s the thing: teaching kindness isn’t always as simple as it sounds.

Sometimes the lessons stick. Sometimes they turn into a neighborhood spectacle involving a mailbox.(See today’s story)

We’ve got a little of everything on the table today. Fun games, meaningful words, and a reminder that we’re all still learning along the way.

Here’s what’s waiting for you. We saved you the best seat.

STORIES FROM THE TABLE

I’m a bit of a challenge lover. Gratitude challenges, Self-love, you name it.

I think they’re a wonderful way to kickstart a good habit. And give you accountability.

So, I once did a kindness challenge with my kids.

And for the most part, it was great. My kids were young. Soaking everything up. And they were learning what it meant to make a positive impact.

Until…

They wrote a thank you card to the mailman and took it to our community mailbox.

It was a cold day, and my third child was a baby. So I sent the big kids on their own and watched out the window.

And what did my proud mother’s eyes see?

My children fighting about who got to put the letter in the mailbox.

Before I knew it, they were duking it out in front of the neighborhood.

Oh…it gets better.

You see, then, my daughter’s hat got stuck in the mailbox. And instead of helping her, my angry son just walked away.

Leaving a 5-year-old flailing and stuck to a mailbox.

The neighbor rushed out and rescued her before I got there. (I can only imagine what he was thinking.)

And I was shaking with embarrassment.

Seriously. Could they have missed the point any more than they did?!

Now that my kids are bigger, I can laugh about it.

And I also realize that motherhood is full of moments like these. Sometimes you win. And sometimes your kids make you feel like a crazy person.

Teaching kindness, friendship, and all the other important skills we want our kids to learn is an ongoing journey.

There are ups and downs, beautiful moments, and mailbox disasters.

What matters is that we keep showing up, keep teaching, and never stop trying.

Because the goal isn’t perfect kids.

It’s raising people who keep learning how to make the world a little better.
