Objective of the 6-7 Christmas Gift Exchange Game
The goal is to have fun, follow the dice-roll directions, and end the game with a wrapped Christmas gift!
Unlike a traditional gift exchange, the players move around the circle while the gifts stay in place. You never know which present you’ll end up with!
Supplies You Need
All you need to play this Christmas gift exchange game is:
- One wrapped gift per player
- Two standard six-sided dice
- The free 6-7 Christmas Gift Exchange printable below
- Enough space to arrange the gifts in a circle
Gift tip: Set a price limit ahead of time ($6 or $7?) so everyone brings a gift of similar value. For kids, small toys, books, card games, and fun accessories are great choices. For adults, try funny white-elephant gifts, cozy items, snacks, a stovetop simmer pot kit, or other great gift exchange surprises.
Easy Gift Ideas:
How to Play the 6-7 Christmas Gift Exchange Game
1. Have each player bring one wrapped gift. Arrange all the gifts in a large circle, leaving enough room for players to move around them.
2. Each player stands behind one gift. The gifts stay in their original spots throughout the game.
3. Roll the 2 dice and add up the total. Find the number on the printable and complete the action.
Important Playing Tip: When a rule says to move left or right, the player who rolled moves to the specified spot and swaps places with the player there. The other player moves to their old spot. Gifts stay at their spots unless the Six-Seven Switch is triggered, which makes players exchange gifts without moving.
4. Watch for the Six-Seven Switch! If someone rolls a 6 and the very next player rolls a 7, everyone yells “SIX-SEVEN!” and follows the special gift-swapping rule.
6. Play three rounds. Each player gets three turns to roll the dice.
7. At the end of the game, each player keeps the wrapped gift at their final spot and opens it.

EVERYONE YELLS “SIX-SEVEN!”
Swap GIFTS with the player across from you! Stay in the same spot!
No one across from you? Choose another player to swap gifts with!
Tips for the 6-7 Roll: The 7 must be rolled on the very next player’s turn after a 6 is rolled. If the 6-7 sequence happens, use the special rule instead of the regular rule for 7.

Tips for Playing with Kids and Large Groups
- Keep the gifts similar in value. This helps everyone feel good about the gift they receive.
- Set a no-peeking boundary. Players can gently shake their gift, but the peek rule should never mean fully unwrapping it.
- Make the moves clear. Arrange the gifts in a circle and remind players that they are moving between spots, not moving the presents.
- Adjust the number of rounds. Three turns per player is a good starting point. For a large group, two turns each may be enough.
- Keep it lighthearted. The fun comes from the surprises, not from ending up with a specific gift.
