Players: 2+

Dice Needed: 5 dice

Goal: Roll a Ship (6), Captain (5), and Crew (4) in that order within three rolls.

How To Play:

  1. Each player gets 3 rolls per turn.
  2. First, you must roll a 6 (the Ship).
  3. Once you have a 6, try to roll a 5 (the Captain).
  4. Once you have both, try to roll a 4 (the Crew).
  5. After getting all three, add the remaining 2 dice together for your Cargo score.
  6. Highest Cargo score wins the round.

2. Going To Boston

*Super easy!

Players: 2+

Dice Needed: 3 dice

Goal: Get the highest total score after one turn.

How To Play:

  1. Roll three dice.
  2. Keep the highest number and set it aside.
  3. Roll the remaining 2 dice and again keep the highest number.
  4. Roll the final die.
  5. Add all 3 kept numbers together for your score.
  6. Highest score wins.

Players: 2+

Dice Needed: 1 die

Goal: Be the first player to reach 100 points

How To Play:

  1. Roll the die as many times as you want during your turn.
  2. Add the numbers together as you roll.
  3. But if you roll a 1, your turn ends and you lose all points from that turn.
  4. Before rolling a 1, you can choose to “hold” and keep your points.
  5. First player to 100 wins.

4. Straight Shooter

Players: 2+

Dice Needed: 6 dice

Goal: Roll the longest number sequence possible.

  1. Roll all 6 dice.
  2. Look for a number sequence starting with 1.
  3. The longer your sequence, the more points you score.

9. Around The Clock

Players: 1+

Dice Needed: 2 dice

Goal: Roll all the numbers on the clock face

How To Play:

  1. Each player starts with a clock-style score sheet (numbers 1–12).
  2. Players take turns rolling two dice. After rolling, the player may add, subtract, multiply, or divide the two numbers. The goal is to make a number that is still open on the clock sheet. If the player successfully makes an available number, they cross it off their sheet.
  3. Each number can only be crossed off once. If a player cannot make any available number, their turn ends.
  4. Players continue taking turns until no more moves can be made.
  5. At the end of the game, players add up all uncrossed numbers on their sheet. The player with the lowest total score wins.

10. Dice Race

Players: 1+

Dice Needed: 6 dice per player (or time each player and take turns)

Goal: Roll 1 to 6

How To Play:

  1. Each player starts with 6 dice. Players take turns rolling one die at a time. The goal is to roll a 1 first.
  2. Once a 1 is rolled, the player moves on to rolling a 2. After rolling a 2, the player moves on to 3, then 4, then 5, and finally 6.
  3. Players must complete each number in order before moving to the next.
  4. Players continue rolling until they successfully roll all numbers from 1 to 6.
  5. The first player to complete the full sequence from 1 to 6 wins the game.

11. Sevens

Players: 3+

Dice Needed: 6 dice

Goal: Score the highest total while avoiding combinations that add up to 7.

How To Play:

  1. Decide how many rounds you want to play.
  2. On your turn, roll all 6 dice.
  3. Remove any dice combinations that add up to 7.
  4. Add the remaining dice together for your current score.
  5. You may roll again up to 3 times total, but after each roll you must remove any combinations equaling 7.
  6. Removed dice stay out for the rest of your turn.
  7. After each roll, choose whether to keep your score or risk rolling again for more points.
  8. Keep in mind that the players who follow may only take as many throws as the first. For example, if the first player only rolled twice, then all the other players may not roll more than two times.
  9. The player with the highest total score at the end of all rounds wins.

12. Chicago

Players: 2+

Dice Needed: 2 dice

Goal: Score points by rolling the target number for each round.

How To Play:

  1. The game is played over 11 rounds.
  2. Each round has a target number starting with 2 and ending with 12.
  3. On your turn, roll both dice once.
  4. If your dice add up to the target number for that round, you score those points.
  5. If you do not roll the target number, you score 0 points for that round.
  6. After all 11 rounds, add up everyone’s scores.

13. Knock Out

Players: 2+

Dice Needed: 2 dice

Goal: Be the first player to reach 100 or have the highest score at the end of a predetermined number of rounds.

How To Play:

  1. Decide if you will play to 100 points or for a set number of rounds.
  2. Choose a knock-out number (6, 7, or 8). You can make it the same for all players or different for each player (7 is most common).
  3. Each round is complete once all players have taken one turn.
  4. On your turn, roll both dice.
  5. Add the total of the dice and record your score for that turn.
  6. If you roll the knock-out number, you score 0 for that turn.
  7. If you roll the knock-out number, your entire accumulated score is reset to 0.
  8. You only get one roll per turn.
  9. Pass the dice to the next player on your left after your turn.
  10. Continue playing until a player reaches the target score or the final round is complete.

14. Three or More

Players: 2+

  2. Players take turns rolling all 5 dice.
  3. The goal is to roll at least 3 of a kind.
  4. If no matching numbers are rolled, the score for that turn is 0, and the player’s turn is over.
  5. If 3 or more of a kind are rolled on the first roll, the score is recorded immediately, and the dice are passed to the next player.
  6. If there are only 2 of a kind, the player may re-roll the remaining 3 dice once.

  8. Scoring is based on matches:

  1. Players take alternating turns rolling 6 dice.
  2. After rolling, the player looks for “runs,” which are sequences of numbers (such as 1-2-3-4-5-6). Runs must start with the number 1.
  3. Each number used in a run is worth 5 points.
  4. Dice may only be used once when forming runs.
  5. If multiple runs can be made, all valid runs are scored separately and added together.
  6. If no run can be made, the player scores 0 points.
  7. Players take one turn per round and record their score.
  8. The game continues until one player reaches 100 points.

16. Passage

Players: 2+

Dice Needed: 2 dice

Goal: Be the first player to reach 11 points.

How To Play:

  1. To set up the game, each player rolls one die.
  2. The highest roll goes first. The player with the lowest roll rolls again to determine the “point number.”
  3. The point number becomes the target number for the rest of the game.
  4. Starting with the first player, players take turns rolling two dice.
  5. If a player rolls the point number, they earn 1 point.
  6. If a player rolls doubles of the point number, they earn 2 points.
  7. Each player only gets one roll per turn. Keep a running total of each player’s score.
  8. The first player to reach 11 points wins the game.

17. Dice Wars

Players: 2

Dice Needed: 2 dice

Goal: Achieve a higher total than your opponent.

How To Play:

  1. Each player starts with 2 dice and 5 point markers (optional; such as pennies, pebbles, or jelly beans).
  2. Each player rolls their two dice and adds (or multiplies) the numbers together.
  3. Compare totals with your opponent.
  4. The player with the higher total takes one point marker from their opponent.
  5. If both players tie, no point markers are taken.
  6. Continue taking turns rolling and comparing totals.
  7. The game ends when one player has all 10 point markers, or when a 3–5 minute timer runs out.
  8. If using a timer, the player with the most point markers at the end wins.

18. Ten Multiples

Goal: To help players practice adding numbers and then quickly identifying and listing multiples of a given sum.

How To Play:

  1. This game can be played in pairs or small groups. Each group will need 2 dice to share and a sheet of paper for each player.
  2. Players take turns rolling both dice. After rolling, the player adds the two dice together. The sum becomes the starting number for a set of 10 multiples.
  3. Players write out the first 10 multiples of that number. For example, if a player rolls 3 and 4, the sum is 7. The multiples of 7 are 7, 14, 21, 28, 35, 42, 49, 56, 63, and 70.
  4. Players record their answers on their sheet or practice oral practice instead of written work at any point.

19. Add Then Multiply

How To Play:

  1. Players play in pairs and will need 3 dice and a sheet to record scores.
  2. Decide before starting if the game will go to a set score, a set number of rounds, or a set amount of time.
  3. Players take turns rolling all 3 dice. After rolling, the player chooses two dice to add together. The sum of those two dice is then multiplied by the remaining third die. The result is the player’s score for that round.
  4. Each player records their score after every turn. Continue taking turns until the game end condition is reached.
  5. Add up all round scores for each player. The player with the highest total score wins. For example, if you roll 3, 4, and 2, you can add 4 + 2 = 6, then multiply 6 × 3 = 18.

Goal: The goal is to create the largest possible quotient from the numbers rolled.

How To Play:

  1. Players play in pairs or small groups and will need 3 dice and a sheet of paper to record scores.
  2. Players take turns rolling all 3 dice. After rolling, the player chooses two dice to form a two-digit dividend. The remaining die is used as the divisor.
  3. The goal is to create the largest possible quotient from the numbers rolled.
  4. Players divide the two-digit number by the single die and record the quotient as their score for that turn.
  5. If the division results in no remainder, the player earns a 10-point bonus. If there is a remainder, it must be written down, but is not used in the final score.
  6. Each player takes one roll per turn and records their result. The player with the highest total score at the end of the game wins.
