How to Play Roll & Draw The American Flag

Here are the basics for how to play the game, then keep reading to the bottom to add in clever twists!

Pro Tip: It helped my kids to look at a picture of the American flag first as a quick refresher.

1. Give each player a game sheet and something to draw with.

2. Players take turns rolling one die.

3. Each number tells you what to draw on your flag and in the surrounding picture:

• 1 = Flag Pole
• 2 = Blue Star Box (Top left corner)
• 3 = Stars (The American flag has 50!)
• 4 = 7 Red Stripes (This creates the full set of 13 stripes with the white ones.)
• 5 = Fireworks
• 6 = Add Your Own Creative Detail (sparkles, banners, hearts, etc…)

If a player rolls a number for something they already drew, they skip their turn and wait for the next roll.

4. The first player to finish their American flag wins!

That’s it! Simple, quick, and full of giggles. Especially if someone keeps rolling the same number over and over!

How long does this game take? Each game takes about 10 minutes. Just long enough to keep kids entertained without losing their attention.

In our house, every flag turns out totally different. Some look classic… others look like they survived a fireworks explosion!

Pro Tip: Print on white cardstock for added durability. You can also store it in a plastic sleeve and use it again!

Try these if your players want to mix it up:

• Speed Round: Everyone rolls their own die at the same time and races to finish their flag drawing first.

• Star-Spangled Sharing: Each number comes with a fun question:
  • 1- Favorite 4th of July food

  • 3- Favorite firework
  • 4- Favorite patriotic song
  • 5- Favorite summer vacation memory
  • 6- Favorite 4th of July tradition

• Silly Challenge Version: Players complete a challenge when they roll a number.
  • 1- Draw with your non-dominant hand.
  • 2- Pass your paper to the person on the right to draw.
  • 3- Draw while holding your paper on your head.
  • 4- Draw with your eyes closed.
  • 5- Spin in a circle before drawing.
  • 6- Stand on one foot while drawing.

• Team Draw: Two players share one flag and alternate rolls. Great for groups and siblings.

• Advanced Version: Use two dice for older kids and expand the drawing:
