Quiet impact

Good morning. I’ve been thinking about the power of appreciation.

Not the big, grand gestures. But the quiet kind. The words we don’t always say out loud. The people who show up every day, giving their all day in and day out.

Because when you pause long enough to really see them, it changes something.

In them. And in you.

So today, let this be your reminder to notice. To say it. To mean it.

Here’s what’s on the table today.

Mine is Juicy Chipbowlbottom 😂 . What’s yours?

A few years ago, I attended my youngest daughter’s preschool graduation. Words were spoken that wiggled in and made a home in my heart.

My daughter’s teacher received an award, and someone made a short video of her with the kids. Then they played it at the graduation.

The entire video was sweet, but it was the teacher’s “sign off” at the end that touched me.

She spoke softly to the camera about how much she loves her job and adores seeing the kids’ growth. Then she closed with,

“Teachers don’t make much money. They don’t get lots of awards,”

(And with tears flooding her eyes and a hint of defiance in her voice)

“But what we do is important.”

I sat there (trying not to cry in public), thinking about how grateful I am that she spoke these words aloud.

Because she needs her message to be heard in a society that is forgetting.

We revere the social media influencers. And put entertainers on a pedestal.

Athletes and actors make millions. But what about the backbone of our society?

The teachers, nursing home assistants, police officers, street cleaners, parents, and many others who serve, build up, and care for others with all they have. Only to be told they are “less valued” by a society obsessed with material success and fame.

My message today is for the caregivers. And those of you who serve quietly, but with dignity and strength.

Thank you. We see you. You are the heartbeat of humanity.

Your work is important.

And don’t let anyone tell you differently.

Today has two holidays!

Cinco de Mayo commemorates the Mexican victory at the Battle of Puebla in 1862. It’s often marked today in the United States with food, music, and cultural celebrations.

Teacher Appreciation Day is a day to recognize and thank teachers for their hard work, dedication, and impact on students’ lives. It’s a chance to show gratitude for all they do in and out of the classroom.

Joanne says, “Their mother asked me about how to get her kids to help out more around the house (chores). I immediately thought of your Routine pack you sell, so I purchased it for her. She is currently using it with the whole family. I was at their house last night, and it’s so clean!! I asked their Dad how it happened, and he thanked your Routine pack for so many great ideas!!
