A few years ago, my good friend’s family got sick. She had a toddler and small baby, and they all got bad colds. Or so she thought.

What started small turned into something more. And when she took her baby to the doctor, he was rushed to the nearest children’s hospital for RSV.

Now, this tough little guy got better just fine with medical care. But listening to his mom after broke my heart. My dear friend beat herself up relentlessly for weeks.

Should she have taken him in sooner? Should she have known? What could she have done differently?

And it tore me up because I have done the same thing regarding my own kids.

Finally, I said to her,

“You did the best you could with what you knew at the time.”

And that finally broke through the self-blame. She was able to let go a little. To forgive herself a tiny bit more.

The truth is:

  • We’re all just human. That can be terrifying. You don’t have all the answers. You can’t control all the outcomes.
  • But the one thing you do control is that you’re doing your best.

And then you have to let that be enough.

So, let it be enough today friend.
