Day 3: Bedroom and Closet Decluttering Hacks

A calm, organized bedroom helps reduce decision fatigue and creates a restful retreat. Follow these 5 powerful decluttering hacks to get started:

1. Tackle One Section at a Time

Feeling overwhelmed? Break the process into bite-sized steps:

  • Focus on one area: your nightstand, dresser, or a single closet shelf.
  • Use a timer: 15–30 minutes is all you need to make visible progress.

Pro Tip: Seeing small wins will keep you motivated.

2. Purge Ruthlessly with the Box Method

Sort clothes and accessories into 3 categories: Keep, Donate/Sell, and Trash.

Ask yourself:

  • Have I used this in the past year?
  • Do I love it or feel my best when wearing it?
  • Does it fit?
  • Would I buy this again?
  • Do I own too many similar items?

If you hesitate, let it go. What’s left will be a small, versatile wardrobe filled with pieces you’ll love and wear.

Pro Tip: Stop buying hangers to “solve” a crowded closet. Declutter instead!

3. Use Smart Storage Systems

Maximize space and keep things organized with simple tools:

  • Slim, non-slip hangers
  • Over-the-door organizers for shoes or accessories
  • Vertical fabric shelves for sweaters, jeans, or bags
  • Storage bins for off-season items
  • Tiered shoe racks or clear boxes to keep shoes tidy
  • Hooks for hats, belts, or bags
  • Fold clothes vertically in drawers so everything is visible at a glance

4. Stop The Pile-Up In That Spot

Every bedroom has one: a chair, corner, or bench that becomes a clutter magnet. Declare it a no-pile zone and commit. Nothing goes there!

5. Make Donating Clothes Easy

Having a go-to donation spot ensures follow-through. Consider:

  • The Salvation Army, Goodwill, or Dress for Success
  • Local schools, churches, or shelters
  • Vietnam Veterans of America
  • Community consignment shops

Pro Tip: Knowing where to donate makes decluttering guilt-free and rewarding.
